The June Journal
Hello you. Hope you’re doing well.
It's been a quiet month over here on The Everything Journal. I spent half of June in a whirlwind of exams, and the other back home on the Gold Coast, enjoying the company of my friends, family and the beaches I've been missing sorely.
This month, I decided to keep things short and sharp. It’s midway through the year and we’ve all got piles of stuff to be doing, so rather than waffling on too long I wanted to pin down my monthly favourites. Here’s all the things I’ve been enjoying, and I hope you will too!
Podcast: The High Low
How I wasn’t hooked on this sooner, I have no idea, for this podcast has become the air that I breathe. Hosted by two wonderful journalists, Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes, The High Low has been filling my ears with global current affairs and pop-culture in the most understandable and woke manner. I detest the news, finding myself constantly out of the loop, and this podcast (which I binge listened to for 59 hours over a single fortnight) has me all over the world’s major affairs and minor quirks. Please, do yourself a favour, and download every single episode RIGHT NOW.
Book: Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton
Okay, so I got pretty obsessed with Dolly after my affair with The High Low, but her recently released memoir has to be one of my favourite books of all time. Her words feel like a conversation between friends, her incredible and turbulent journey through her twenties had me clinging to every word. As a millennial female with the weight of a career looming ahead, I devoured Dolly’s every word.
Television: The Handmaid’s Tale
If you haven’t heard of The Handmaid’s Tale, then honestly, where have you been? Let me attempt to summarise:
- Not enough babies
- Must make babies
- CHAOS
I give you, The Handmaid’s Tale.
Praised be.
Song: idontwannabeyouanymore by Billie Eilish
You're welcome.
Place: Folk, Byron Bay
A friend and I stumbled upon this beautiful cafe on the outskirts of Byron town, where we stopped for chai and enjoyed the scenery. The humble corner cafe oozes Byron's relaxed charm, drawing in characters who looked as though they'd stepped straight out of the seventies.
Blog: Deliciously Ella
90% of the time I spend on my computer is trawling through Deliciously Ella's recipe pages. I'm properly obsessed with the Ella empire and am constantly in awe of the business this woman has created. Some of my favourites are her Sweet Potato Brownies, Roast Veg and Chickpea Stew, and Five Ingredient Cookies. YUM.
